Rhinebeck, Dutchess Co., NY . 'In 1781 three pioneers settled
at Shavertown, they were Jacob and John Shaver (the same family
name is frequently written Shafer), from Dutchess Co. and
Philip Barnhart, from Schoharie Co. Jacob's daughter,
Catherine, was the first person married in Shavertown in 1789,
to Henry Myers. (Reference: History of Delaware County, 1797 to
1880; Gazetter of the State of New York.) Will: Delaware County
Will Book C/136 'The Liddle Farm: The north one-half of Lot 5,
'situate in Middletown on Trimpir's Kill, 'was conveyed by
Samuel William Johnson to Jacob Shafer May 20, 1794, for 80
pounds, money of New York. By his will, dated July 19, 1805,
admitted to probate March 13, 1821, Jacob Shaver gave the
income from his estate to his wife, Eve, for life, gave his son
Abraham, 'the place where we now live,' and the rest of his
estate be divided equally among all of his children, without
naming them. Letters testamentary were granted to his sons,
John, Jacob, and Abraham'.
